SHQ Teamrider Lisa Edlund new Australian Wave Champ !

Another very well organized event by Hudson Godfrey-Smith from Neil Pryde and SHQ Teamrider John Pott. Unfortunately the conditions never really got up to expectations with most of the week showing light onshore conditions with only small inconsistent swell. None the less there was plenty of action with local riders Lisa, Alistair and Joel getting excellent results for the Melbourne crew. SHQ Teamrider John Pott broke three ribs before the contest in classic Marrawah conditions but managed to deal with the pain and finish the competition with a good result.

Most riders this year where riding twinfins and even in the small onshore conditions managed to outdo the single fin riders. The SHQ JP -and Quatro twinfin demo boards where even used in the finals by Caleb Smith and Lisa Edlund who chose to leave their single fin boards on the beach.

Congratulations to our Teamrider Lisa Edlund for becoming the new Australian Wave sailing champ for 2009! Lisa was way ahead of the competition this year with some very tight turns on the wave and big jumps on the way out.

Melbourne sailor Joel Ryan was also shredding, with some great wave riding, solid forwards and one -handed backloops. Joel managed to walk away with a well deserved 3rd place in the Open. SHQ grommy Alistair McLeod was uncontested in the Juniors but gave most competitors in the Open a good run for their money showing excellent wave riding in the difficult conditions. Keep an eye on this kid, he could be the next Jason Polakow !
