The perfect light wind kiteboard shape shares a lot of characteristics with a great mushy wave surfboard. Thesebeing that they plane at a low speed with low energy, can hold a rail and are still super shredable. Luckily for uswe already had a spectacularly unique shape that when brought over to the kite world, will blow minds. Don’t letthe peculiar shape scare you, the Shroom is a light wind beast that can still power down the line and smack thelip out of little curlers

OUTLINE

The Shroom features a square nose, clean parallel style outline into an area squash tail. Trying to squeeze as much surface area into aboard that still surfs is the main key in creating an effective light wind board. The outline of the Shroom achieves this with a wide nose andtail, whilst not going too straight in the outline.

DECK AND RAILS

The step rail and concave deck are definitely the most prominent feature of the Shroom. Thick rails are great for riding in low powersituations however, a thin rail is needed when holding a rail, especially when trying to generate speed from a bottom turn. This Shroomstep down rail is thin so it drops into the water instantly, but then it only goes as far in until it hits the thick part, so you get enoughpenetration in an instant to give you hold and direction change but it won’t bury. Combine this with the concave deck that gives you extraleverage through aggressive turns, you get a board equally as light wind proficient as a light wind beast!

ROCKER

The Shroom when compared to other boards has a very flat rocker line especially in the nose. This gives the board really good carry andallows it to plane at a low speed. This characteristic is extremely important in the design of a light wind kiteboard as it allows the rider tomaintain speed even when their feet are not placed perfectly and when the kite does not deliver a consistent pull.

BOTTOM SHAPE

The bottom shape of the Shroom has a super deep concave, more like an inverted V. One problem with really wide tails and boards is it’sreally hard to hold them on edge. The super deep concave fixes this by eliminating the slippery feeling that a wide board often has. Thisallows the rider to really engage their edge and vastly improves the boards upwind and lightwind performance.

FIN SETUP

The Shroom has a unique fin setup that compliments its unique shape. The 4 fin setupoffers way more direction and drive.. really common on wide tails, they get squirrelyand slippery, spin out, once the tail fin lets go, it’s hard to recover.. It’s because theboard sits flat on the water, so you are more reliant on the fins to keep hold. Havingthe the 2 tail fins really close together acts the same as a Bi Plane.. They can handlemassive angles of attack before the wings fail to function. The perfect light wind kiteboard shape shares a lot of characteristics with a great mushy wave surfboard.
