Foiling (foil boarding, hydrofoiling) is the new cross-disciplinary sport which is taking over the world of watersports.
A hydrofoil's wing is set at an angle to the direction of motion, this generates lift through the reactionary force caused by the foil driving through the water. This allows the board to lift out of the water vastly reducing drag. 
Due to the reduced water resistance, a hydrofoil is able to go much faster and operate in much lower power zones (e.g. with less wind) than a conventional board.
