Beginner windsurf gear is all about getting you stood up quickly and sailing upwind easily. While conditions and rider weight will influence the best setup for you below gives a rough guide of what you should be looking for.

For learning flat water with 8-18kts of wind is best.

Board - Windsurf boards are measured in liters of volume where 1 liter supports 1kg of weight. A good rule of thumb as a beginner is to double your weight in kg and this gives you a suitable volume for a stable platform to learn the basics and progress with.

Sail - Click here to view the sail size guide. For sail type, any freeride or wave sail will work well for learning. Avoid freestyle, foiling or race sails until you start playing with those disciplines

Rig - the mast, boom and other components will be influenced by the sail you pick. Generally higher carbon content will mean stiffer and more performance focused but also sitting at a higher price point. We strongly recommend giving us a call on 03 9598 2867 so we can help build your rig using the right components giving you the best time on the water.
