Retail Department Manager – Watersports Retailer

SHQ Boardsports is growing and needs an experienced and energetic Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Department Manager to join the team.

Located in bayside Melbourne, SHQ has been around for more than 30 years as the country’s leading specialist windsurfing, kiteboarding, SUP and surfing hardware retailer. We pride ourselves on supporting the sports we love at every level, from schools to pros and everything between. This leadership position has close links to many of the world’s best watersports brands and is most suitable for an individual with a keen interest in all aspects of the sport.

The SUP Department Manager is responsible for,

• Ensuring that high customer service expectations at met throughout the store
• Keeping the rest of the SHQ team up to date with the latest developments in stand-up paddle boarding and the equipment
• Maximising sales by matching customer needs to our extensive range of products
• Supplier relationships and ordering
• Shop presentation and merchandising
• Coordinating marketing efforts including online initiatives as well as our demo days, social paddles and other events

The successful candidate will have,

• Passion and energy for watersports in general, especially SUP (an interest in windsurfing is also preferred)
• Solid foundation of product knowledge in SUP surfing, racing and recreational paddling (again, some experience in windsurfing is also preferred)
• Retail experience
• Self motivation, initiative and ambition to succeed
• Excellent interpersonal skills, team leader and a team player
• Well developed sales ability and business acumen
• Eye for detail and good problem solving ability
• Excellent communication and good computer skills

The role is offered as a full-time position including regular Saturdays. Remuneration includes salary + Super + discount equipment + paid travel opportunities.
