KITE RACING

SHQ is proud to announce our Kite Race Team including former speed kiting local hero Dave Trewern, who was unofficially the world's fastest-man-on-water in 2005, Bass Strait record breaker and career yacht racer Ben Morrison-Jack, and James Neeson, the talented young sailor and our favourite instructor at SBHQ.  These three legends-in-the-making will be training and racing hard for glory at RBYC, SYC and Sail Melbourne events this summer.

Royal Brighton Yacht Club ran the first successful kite racing of the season on Sunday, 23 September with more to come soon.  Everyone is welcome to check out this exciting new development in the sport with an very low price introductory membership offer from RBYC, more details below, and the following race days coming up.

Saturday and Sunday, 10-11 October, at 2pm both days

Also stay tuned for more info session where you can join in to learn about the various aspects of kite racing and also contribute to the  development of the sport with one of Australia premier yacht clubs. The next scheduled info session is Saturday, 27 October at 11am but  more are in the works.

Royal Brighton Yacht Club will soon announce an introductory membership for kite racing of $200 from now until 30 June, about 9  months, including full membership access to their facilities, Yachting Australia registration and of course all race fees for the spring series, dates above, and upcoming summer series starting in February.

Sandringham Yacht Club is also in the mix with Friday racing ramping up this week and every Friday until the end of November.  SYC Kite Racing membership is $150 for those who are not already members of a yacht club, and $60 for the spring series if you are already a member of another yacht club.  This membership gives you full access to the great facilities at SYC from now until March, about 6 months, and includes the required Yachting Victoria registration.

SHQ WINTER WAVESAILING CLINIC - ON STANDBY 24th/25th AUGUST

This weekend is shaping up to be a good one for our wave clinic.   

The forecast looks like good wind Saturday morning and all Sunday with a small swell on Saturday building to a mid size swell by Sunday afternoon which will be perfect for progression through the clinic.  Should be a great weekend.

There are still a few spots left so give us a call now to lock it in.  We've added an option of paying $120 a day just for the coaching for those who don't want to stay down the whole weekend or are looking for a cheaper option.

SHQ Clinic

SHQ is running a clinic at Sandy Point this winter for all levels of wavesailors. If you can consistently waterstart, gybe and plane around in the footstraps then you can start to get out in the waves!

Sandy Point is the perfect location to push yourself in fun conditions due to the shape of Waratah Bay. Cross to cross-offshore wind conditions (ideal for wavesailing) can be found between in any wind direction between West and South Easterly.  We have picked August to run the clinic as we typically see strong West to North West winds – offering flexibility in terms of locations to sail with varying sizes of waves (smaller in the corner of Waratah Bay and bigger at Sandy Point front beach).

The clinic will be run by two of our team riders – Al McLeod and Jono Bouillir who can teach you anything from the finer details of getting over white water to landing your aerials and loops.  They will be on hand to give you advice, answer your questions and capture your progress on camera. SHQ will also be providing plenty of the latest wave gear for you to demo.

This clinic is all-inclusive so accommodation and meals will be provided, Jono (also a qualified professional chef) will be cooking up a storm after a big day on the water. At the end of the day we can go through the photos and video captured to analyse technique and give you tips for the next day of action – it really is a much faster way to progress! You will also be able to take your action shots home with you to show the friends and family and the end of the trip.

NEILPRYDE 2013 - THE WIZARD

Neilpryde & JP have gone hardcore with Freestyle with the signing of world champion Steven van Broeckhoven and the development of a new Freestyle sail called the Wizard for 2013.  For those who loved the Firefly and don't want a hard core Freestyle sail, don't worry for 2013 the Atlas will be very similar to the old Firefly in the smaller sizes and in the large sizes the Wizard will perform and feel similar to the Firefly.  

However, for those who really want to be on the plane earlier than anyone else and powered to pop the latest freestyle move then look no further than the Wizard!!!

Come and join SHQ and learn to shred the waves!

We have put together a weekend package for all those who want to get excited about the waves. 

If you are a beginner we can introduce you to the waves. Learning to ride toe side, where to position your kite, how to read the waves, and gain confidence to explore the waves where ever you travel.

However, if you want critiquing on your cut backs or riding the waves unhooked we've got it covered with video reviews of the weekend.

This weekend comes with "the lot" . We are including accomodation, full catering by one of Victoria's leading executive chefs, video analysis and review of your progression from Kite Life, teaching, clinics, demos on the latest gear from the top brands and a T-shirt. 

Friday night is social night, you will arrive to snacks movies and beverages. Saturday and Sunday will include theory, gear tuning, demonstrations, video analysis in the waves.
